As I grow older, I find myself increasingly reflecting on my past – the family I have lost and those who remain a part of my life. My Grandmother stands out in my memories more than anyone else. She was an extraordinary woman of faith, a devoted prayer warrior who carried the weight of her eight grandchildren in her heart daily. I remember how she would gather us around her in the warm glow of her living room, her hands clasped tightly as she poured out heartfelt prayers. Each prayer was steeped in love, hope, and an unwavering belief in God’s promises.

As we grew older and faced the challenges of our teenage years, our lives started to go in different directions. Some of us remained steadfast in our faith, finding strength and comfort in our beliefs, while others chose a different route. I stepped away from the Lord when I turned sixteen, driven by the conviction that I had a better understanding of life and my own desires. At that time in my life, I was shaped by the wide world around me and the excitement of gaining independence. I started to think differently about the values I had been raised with, feeling that I could create my own path.

My grandmother, a steadfast pillar of strength in our family, never wavered in her love for us or in her devotion to prayer. Every day, she would faithfully bring our needs before God, often reciting scripture that resonated deeply with her. One of her favorites was Ezekiel 36:26, which states, "I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you a heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh" (NIV). This verse, with its promise of transformation and renewal, inspired her as she prayed not only for our well-being but also for our hearts to be softened and renewed.  She held fast to her unwavering belief and the power of God's Word.

Grandmothers’ prayers are a powerful weapon, skillfully wielded with unwavering faith and love. Though they may never fully realize the profound impact of their prayers, they trust wholeheartedly in the might and faithfulness of God. In my own journey, I can attest to this truth; it was God who welcomed me back into His loving embrace after a long period of wandering. I firmly believe that it was my grandmother’s steadfast prayers that played a crucial role in my return. She was a woman who never lost hope or ceased to believe in the promise that her prodigal granddaughter would find her way home one day.

God hears our prayers and sees the prodigal who has wandered away from the truth of His boundless love and grace. Even in their absence, we must remember that the prodigal is never beyond the reach of His compassion. Do not stop praying; your prayers can serve as a lifeline that draws them back to the warmth of His embrace. Maintain your unwavering belief in the transformative power of God's faithfulness, even when it feels difficult.

When the moment arrives, be prepared to embrace them with open arms and a loving heart, welcoming them back without judgment or doubt. Remember that God cares for them deeply and wants them to return to His loving arms, even in ways we can't fully grasp. Their path back might take some time, but your consistent support and unconditional love can serve as a shining light, leading them home.

And as he arose and came to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt compassion, and ran and embraced him and kissed him. Luke 15:20, ESV
