How can we start on the path of transformation?

Invite Jesus in to be a part of this.

He knows just how we need to be transformed in whatever ways we desire. If we don’t know those desires, ask Him to reveal them to you. He is walking along side of you, rooting for you, picking you up and healing you from it all.

Surrender to His will.

Let go of your plans, allow Him to spill out of you. Intentionally saturate yourself with His truths — seek and you will find.

Walk in obedience with Him.

Surrender to him every day, hour, minute, second of your lifes. Being obedient to His will for your lives. When you’re living in the will of Jesus, He has a way of making things unfold in ways that work for you.

THIS ONE IS HUGE FOR ME! Do not compare.

Worry about yourself. It’s you and Him. Everyone’s journey looks different.

Turn down the voices in your head.

God’s voice should drown out that negative voice and His should be the loudest.

Focus on your progress not your perfection.

Practice makes PROGRESS. God doesn’t want your perfection, He wants your heart. He wants your sincerest effort and He wants you to keep growing and walking closer with Him.

Strong motivation words.

I visualize the 5 P’s — patience, persistence, peace, perspective, practice.

Change takes time. Bad habits take time to break. Negative thoughts take practice to shut down. Old wounds and fresh wounds take time to heal. Grace and love are given by God and necessary to show others but it’s also necessary for you to give them to yourself.

God is going to take you through this. Whatever “this” may be for you. Maybe it’s having a relationship with Christ. Maybe it’s getting healthy. Or going back to school. Or getting through school. Maybe it’s another kind of goal you want to achieve, another area you are seeking change and transformation from.

Whatever it is, it’s going to have curves and have highs and lows. I tend to look for a straight line, a quick, fast change and sometimes I do still get stuck in that thought process but that’s not how true genuine transformation works.

I am not where I want to be BUT I am not where I was.

I personally don’t think that transformation has to be a from one end of the scale to the other or a complete 180 degrees. It just looks like change.

My old way is gone.

I am new.

I am new — not perfect.

Did you get that?! God has changed my life and is continuing to change my mind, body and soul. He is continuing to refine my rough edges 24/7. I need to constantly allow Him to do that.

Looking back, I like to describe my old life as being on a “diet” for God. Following a certain plan or “to do” in order to gain results. Not having my whole heart into and grumbling the whole way through. Just doing the things that I am told that will make me better because that’s what I’m supposed to do.

Hopping on. Jumping off. Falling off. Regret. Guilt. Shame. Worthlessness.

Diets don’t work! At least not in the long run, and they sure aren’t fun! God wants your heart and your soul. I believe He wants you to be on a healthy lifestyle with Him, a healthy relationship with Him, well-balanced in all things good and holy.

When God is transforming you, it’s hard. When it’s hard, it’s hard. But when it’s good it makes the hard worth it. Change is new, something you’ve never done before, unknown territory. It’s going to and should be uncomfortable and scary but the only thing you’ll have to lose is staying right where you are now.

Tomorrow you are going to wish you started yesterday.

When I need some slap-me-in-the-face realties and truth, I go to these:

For my mind and soul, I tell myself:
It’s hard doing life on our own, moving with the current of this world. It’s hard doing life with Christ. Going against the crowd. Choose your hard.

For my body, I tell myself:
It’s hard being healthy and exercising, making good food choices. It’s hard being unhealthy, being left on the sidelines watching my family do life because I am unable to partake in certain activities. Choose your hard.

What does yours look like?
It’s hard being ______. It’s hard being not ______. Choose your hard.

I want to share a little something that was extremely impactful to me. It’s imprinted BIG on my heart. It was this truth that my mother-in-love sent me about 8 years ago. I was at work having a rough day. I typed it out, printed it and hung it all around me for when I needed a good dose of truth! It read…

“This is the beginning of a new day. God has given me this day to use as I will. I can waste it or use it for good, but what I do today is important because I am exchanging a day of my life for it! When tomorrow comes, this day will be gone forever, leaving in its place something that I have traded it for. I want it to be gain, and not loss, good and not evil, success and not failure, in order that I shall not regret the price that I have paid for it.” Heartsill Wilson

So what are you going to do? There’s another way. There’s a better way. Jesus is the way. Allow him to transform you.
